Gabe Handy Man: Rockwall Handyman Website Case Study

Table of Contents

Gabe is a handyman in Rockwall who takes jobs when he can fit them in, so his site has one job: bring in quote requests from the towns he is willing to drive to, and let him pick which ones to take. Before we started, the domain showed a single page of home repair tips with no form and no way to reach him.

We picked the services by what is worth his time, jobs that clear a sensible hourly rate, and the towns by drive time from Rockwall. Then we wrote a page for each, in his own first-person voice, with real local facts rather than the same paragraph with a different city name in it.

How the research was done
#

  • Services by value. We looked at what handyman jobs pay across vendor and marketplace pages and kept the 20 that are worth the drive, from TV mounting to caulking and regrouting. No prices appear on the site.
  • Towns by drive time. 23 places within about 30 minutes of Rockwall, measured by road, not by a circle on a map. Fate, for example, is 9 minutes.
  • Official local data on every town page: Census population and housing, Zillow home values, FBI crime figures, Texas Education Agency school ratings, plus each city’s own permit rules and the fuel most homes heat with.
  • Licensing checked. We read the Texas occupations code and Rockwall’s permit rules against the services list before publishing.

What we built and changed
#

  • 20 service pages, each in Gabe’s own voice, each with its own image.
  • 22 town pages, 16 of them led by a credited Wikimedia Commons photo of the town, each with its own FAQ.
  • A quote form that works with JavaScript off, checked by Cloudflare Turnstile and delivered through our own form service. His email address is never printed on the site.
  • A newsletter sign-up with a proper mailing address for the law that governs commercial email.
  • Brand colors, light and dark mode, structured data and an llms.txt file for AI answer engines.
  • Security headers: Content Security Policy, HSTS, nosniff, referrer and permissions policies, frame and cross-origin protection.

How it works
#

Plain HTML from Hugo, served by Cloudflare. Preview builds sit behind Cloudflare Access, so unfinished pages are never public.

  • His Google Business Profile, directory listings and a review routine, once the site has settled.
